The Lure of Non-Existent Real Estate
Sometimes you have to wonder how people come up with these truly whacky ideas. Take for example, the idea of selling non-existent real estate. Yep, no joke. How would you feel about buying a piece of an underwater volcano that will probably break through as a solid land mass in say, oh, 10,000 years? Are you open to the idea of owning your own little piece of this hot — no pun intended– little property?

The future site of Lo’ihi Seaview Estates
In the next few weeks, Lo’ihi Seaview Estates plans to officially begin selling parcels for an introductory price of $39.95. Buyers will receive a brochure and a “deed.” However, probably like many Internet groups that claim to sell stars, they probably can’t really call themselves owners.
The site is an obvious parady and should be taken as such. Yet, it will be interesting to see how many people take the plunge to own their own little piece of underwater paradise. At a minimum it may even build its own cyber community as the website intends to offer online chat rooms and newsletters to discuss everything from street names to what kind of government to install. They even want to hold a “homeowners association” meeting - a boat ride over the volcano - every April Fool’s Day.
