Houston: Sees Gain in Sales

Other housing markets may be experiencing mild to severe downturns in their housing markets, but Houston appears to have dodged the proverbial bullet. In February, according to the Houston Association of Realtors, the Houston housing market posted gains in price and sales activity.

The median price of a single-family home increased 2.5% over February 2006, to reach $146,000. Nationwide, the median price of a single-family home was $211,100, down 1.5% from a year ago. Total home sales jumped 3.8% with 4,868 single-family homes being sold. Both were records for February.

Townhouse/condo median prices were up 3.8% over the previous year at $124,500. However, the number of sales sold dropped to 516, down from 550 a year earlier.
