How Many Is Too Many?
When the real estate market was booming, it seemed like everyone was interested in becoming a realtor, and it appears they did so in record numbers. Today, there are approximately 2.6 million licensed real estate agents in the U.S. That may seem like a lot, and quite simply, it is. Some believe that the current real estate market can not support the need for that many realtors, and they may be right.
Both the NAR and RealtyU believe that if the current slow market continues, more and more realtors will allow their licenses to expire and move on to other endeavors. NAR State chapters are already reporting significant drops in membership. While having a large selection of realtors from which to choose may benefit a selective homeowner looking for that gun-ho agent to buy or sell a home, the fact is that many realtors may find themselves considering a new profession in the coming months.
