Fastest Growing Cities

Go West Young Man! For the past few decades, Americans have been moving West and South. The trend appears to be continuing. The U.S. Census Bureau has released its most recent population estimates. All but three of the 50 fastest-growing cities from 2004 to 2005 were in the West and the South.

The fastest growing cities for 2004 - 2005:
1. Elk Grove, Calif.: up 11.6%
2. N. Las Vegas, Nev.: up 11.4%
3. Port St. Lucie, Fla.: up 11%
4. Gilbert, Ariz.: up 11%
5. Cape Coral, Fla.: up 9.2%

Cities with shrinking populations included:
1. Norfolk, Va.: down 2.3%
2. Cincinnati: down 1.6%
3. Fayetteville, N.C. : down 1.6%
4. Hialeah, Fla.: down 1.5%
5. Boston: down 1.5%
