Welcome to the Buckeye State!

Ohio is among the nation's industrial leaders, ranking third in manufacturing. Many cities are known for a specific product, including Akron for rubber, Youngstown for steel and Cleveland for auto parts.  Cleveland was once nicknamed "The Mistake by the Lake," but the city has rebounded in recent years. Today, it is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as the NFL's Browns, MLB's Indians and the NBA's Cavaliers. Cincinnati is home to the NFL's Bengals and MLB's Reds along with Kings Island amusement park and the nation's second oldest zoo. And Dayton is site of Dayton Aviation Heritage, marking the place where the Wright Brothers built their first airplane.

The state was home to seven presidents — Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford Hayes, James Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Taft and Warren G. Harding — and many of their former residences are now open to the public. Other attractions include the U.S. Air Force Museum, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Mound City Group National Monument and Perry's Victory International Peace Memorial.

The state's name comes from an Iroquoian word meaning “great river.” Its capital is Columbus, and major cities include Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron and Dayton.  More than 11.4 million residents live in Ohio, which spans 40,948 square miles. In 2000, the median value of owner-occupied housing units was $103,700.
