Real Estate & Homes in New Jersey - New Jersey homes and communities
New Jersey
Welcome to the Garden State! New Jersey is one of the nation's most densely populated states. Many residents work in New York City or Philadelphia, although New Jersey has its share of industry as well. The "Crossroads of the East" is home to more than 15,000 factories, producing chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil and machinery. It also is a leading producer of garden crops, including flowers, vegetables, berries and grain. Despite its crowded cities, New Jersey offers recreational activities along 127 miles of Atlantic coastline. In 1977, voters legalized gambling in Atlantic City. The seaside town once best-known for its Monopoly-themed streets and the Miss America Pageant is now one of the East Coast's premier getaways. Other attractions include Ocean City, the N.J. State Aquarium, the Delaware Water Gap, the Edison National Historic Site, the Lakota Wolf Preserve, Princeton University and Liberty State Park. The state's name comes from the Channel Isle of Jersey. Its capital is Trenton, and major cities include Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, Woodbridge and Edison. More than 8.6 million residents live in New Jersey, which spans 7,417 square miles. In 2000, the median value of owner-occupied housing units was $170,800.
