Real Estate & Homes in New Hampshire - New Hampshire, homes and communities

New Hampshire

Welcome to the Granite State!

In 2003, the state's official emblem — the “Old Man of the Mountain” — crumbled to the ground. But the Old Man's spirit lives on in this mountainous state, which joined the Union in 1788.
New Hampshire was the first colony to declare its independence from Great Britain. It is also traditionally the first state to hold a presidential primary each election season.  Attractions include the White Mountain National Forest; Lake Winnipesaukee; Daniel Webster's birthplace; Canterbury Shaker Village; and the Strawbery Banke Museum (yes, it's really spelled that way!).

The state's name comes from the English county of Hampshire. Its capital is Concord, and major cities include Manchester, Nashua and Derry.  Nearly 1.3 million residents live in New Hampshire, which spans 8,968 square miles. In 2000, the median value of owner-occupied housing units was $133,300.
