North Las Vegas

   In 1946, a small city was incorporated just north of Las Vegas. Appropriately enough, the town was called North Las Vegas, and it was home to 2,875 residents. Today, the populations of both cities have exploded. North Las Vegas is home to well over 115,000 residents, and it is the second-fastest-growing large city in the United States.
   Many people don't realize that Las Vegas and North Las Vegas are separate cities, but "NLV" has its own City Council, Police Department and Fire Department as well as its own airport and golf courses.
   There are several master-planned communities within the city, including Aliante, Sun City Aliante and Eldorado Highlands. There are also single-family homes, condos and apartments in new developments and in established neighborhoods. In many cases, housing is less expensive in North Las Vegas than comparable homes are in Las Vegas.
   North Las Vegas is close to many local attractions and facilities, including Mount Charleston, Nellis Air Force Base and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. As the Las Vegas metro area expands northward, North Las Vegas has become increasingly centrally located. Local roads and highways also provide easy access to all areas of the Las Vegas valley.

Activities

   North Las Vegas is adjacent to the tourist mecca of Las Vegas, which offers world-class dining, shopping and entertainment. But North Las Vegas has several activities of its own to entertain locals and tourists alike.
   Several casinos are located within the city limits, including Texas Station, the Fiesta, the Cannery and Jerry's Nugget. These facilities offer all the thrills of Strip casinos in a more-relaxed "locals" environment.
   The Las Vegas Drive-In, which boasts five screens, is located just south of the North Las Vegas Airport. One of the last remaining outdoor theaters in Nevada, the drive-in offers first-run double features at bargain prices.
   Public golf is available at the Craig Road Golf Course and the North Las Vegas Golf Course, and Shadow Creek is a private 18-hole course located on Losee Road.
   You can go skating at the Fiesta's indoor ice rink, or try bowling at Texas Station or the Silver Nugget Casino. The city is also home to several parks, bike trails and recreational facilities.
