Welcome to Summerlin!

Summerlin is a master-planned community located in northwest Las Vegas. The area is bordered on the north by Desert Shores, on the west by the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and the Spring Mountains, and on the east by The Lakes development.
This area is known for its beautiful surroundings, unique neighborhoods and strong business community. Summerlin is the nation's best-selling master-planned community, and it has become the standard by which all other master-planned communities are compared.

The development began with the vision of the legendary Howard Hughes, who acquired a sprawling 25,000-acre parcel of land in the early 1950s. Five miles across and eight miles in length, it still ranks as one of the largest properties adjacent to a major metropolitan area under single ownership. In 1985, the property passed to The Howard Hughes Corporation, and work began on the new community in 1988.

Summerlin is unfolding in villages, each centered around its own major park, golf course or major amenity. Currently, there are 17 villages in various stages of development. Eventually, the community will be home to 30 villages, each featuring dozens of thoughtfully planned neighborhoods with a unique selection of homes, town homes, condominiums and apartments.
Although many residents say they live in Summerlin, the area is actually part of the city of Las Vegas. When development is complete, around 2020, the community will host an estimated population of 160,000. That's nearly a city in itself!

Summerlin's master plan calls for a community of balanced land use. A significant portion of the land is reserved as open space to protect the region's ecological balance and to preserve the rugged beauty of the neighboring land.
Summerlin offers its residents more educational choices than any other community in Las Vegas, with eight private schools and 12 public schools. Residents also enjoy living near businesses, shops, restaurants and recreational opportunities.
