Heaven in the Heartland

Situated on the eastern end of Nebraska, right on the Missouri River, Omaha offers a truly cosmopolitan lifestyle with a Midwest flair. This old railroad town has gone through many changes over the last century. From a world-renowned cowtown famous for its beef, to the printing capital of the Midwest, to one of the most varied job markets in the region, Omaha is a fantastic location for those with the pioneer spirit — but who still love big-city amenities.
Like other cities in the area, Omaha gets the best of all four seasons. Hot summers are perfect for boating on the Missouri or visiting the city’s beautiful botanical gardens. Omaha’s extensive tree population makes fall a can’t-miss season for anyone who likes colorful vistas, crisp breezes, and long, sleepy evenings. Come view the light display at the Gene Leahy Mall downtown to welcome the white splendor of Nebraska’s winter. Finally, spring rolls around and brings with it some of the finest minor league baseball in the country — and the perfect opportunity to explore Omaha’s award-winning zoo.
Omahans like the best of everything. Whether it’s weather, food, neighborhoods or schools, the people of Omaha enjoy the high quality and low cost of living all year round. And, of course, they also get the best of heartland living with the perks of city life. Omaha’s wide range of cultural, shopping and nightlife options give citizens their metropolitan fix. (This might be why they call Omaha “the Metro.") And if you’re looking for a little peace and quiet, it’s just a 15-minute drive to the countryside.
In Omaha, the good life is the everyday order of things. High-quality schools, outstanding utilities, culture, sports, family activities and more await you in the Omaha Metro. Come explore all that Omaha has to offer!

150 Years and Counting

Omaha celebrated its 150th birthday in 2004. The last few years have been particularly remarkable for the area’s downtown area. The riverfront north of downtown is undergoing a $2 billion facelift, including the new Qwest Center concert venue and convention hall, the renovated Old Market area, and a showcase riverfront. Omahans have taken the beautiful old downtown and made it new again. Now, you’ll find a city so attractive that nearly 1/3 of its residents relocated from other states to reap the benefits of the river city.

Dining

While Nebraska is famous for its beef, Omaha offers a wide selection of exotic and traditional favorites. Whether it’s sushi, tandoori cuisine, Spanish tapas or Thai food you fancy, Omaha is the place to find it. Some of the restaurants in Omaha’s Old Market have been featured in magazines like Bon Appetit. V. Mertz Restaurant, for example, offers some of the city’s most sophisticated, elegant and sumptuous meals.

Housing

The cost of homes in Omaha has remained consistently below the national average. And whether you’re looking for an older home with hardwood floors and crown molding, or a newer home by the mall, Omaha has it. Even designing your own home on one of the city’s large lots is within reach for most families. Affordable housing is one of the things that make Omaha such an attractive community. The low cost of homes has contributed to the high rate of home ownership, low crime rate and exceptional schools.

Employment

Omaha citizens have no shortage of employment options. In fact, when the national unemployment rate rises, Omaha’s remains relatively stable. And outstanding companies like Con-Agra, First Data, Ameritrade, Berkshire Hathaway, Mutual of Omaha and many, many more, there’s no wonder. The low cost of living makes Omaha an attractive option for companies — and the strong character and work ethic of Omaha citizens is also an excellent incentive to move here.
