Naples
Naples Background
In 2000, Naples was listed as the second-fastest-growing city in the United States. Although the growth has slowed a bit, this South Florida city remains a popular getaway for those in search of upscale shopping, fine dining and scenic shores. The first white settlers in the area were Roger Gordon and Joe Wiggins, who arrived in the late 1860s. Soon after, the area captured the attention of the rest of the nation after it began receiving write-ups on the mildness of the climate and the beauty of its beaches. Visitors commented upon the abundance of fish and game in the area, and it was quickly compared to the beauty of the Italian peninsula. The area was formally named “Naples” when promoters commented that the beauty of the bay area surpassed that of Naples, Italy. For more information on Naples, visit coastparadise.com.
