Real Estate & Homes in Miami - Florida - Miami, Florida homes and communities Miami
Miami Background Miami was originally populated by the Calusa tribe and later was inhabited by the Seminoles. Although the Spanish settled in Southern Florida by the early 18th century, they had largely withdrawn from the area by the mid-19th century. The area remained mainly uninhabited until the late 19th century, when railway service was established in Southern Florida. The development of central air-conditioning and the influx of immigrants after the 1959 Cuban Revolution greatly contributed to Miami’s growth. Today, Miami is known for its sandy beaches, Art Deco architecture and cutting-edge fashion scene.
