Hollywood Background

   When Joseph Young came to South Florida in 1920, he quickly saw the area's development potential. Naming the area after Hollywood, Calif., Young convinced many investors and future residents to visit the fledgling city and purchase plots of land for their future homes. The region's central location between Fort Lauderdale and Miami appealed to residents and tourists alike, who loved the clear water and white beaches of the seaside town.
   Hollywood was formally incorporated in November 1925, and just two months later, there were 2,420 homes in the city. Today, Port Everglades is one of the country's busiest ports, and the seven-mile Hollywood Beach is one of the area's most popular attractions.
   Hollywood continues to expand, offering miles of sandy beaches, fast-paced jai alai and stunning art museums, making it one of the most desirable places to live in South Florida.
