Denver and Boulder Background

Located just 346 miles from the exact center of the continental United States, Denver provides its residents with a central location, mountain views, metropolitan comforts and an average of 300 days of sunshine per year.  With a Rocky Mountain view that inspired the song “America the Beautiful,” Denver has much to offer, including numerous outdoor activities and attractions, a highly educated population, the second largest performing arts complex in the nation, seven professional sports teams and proximity to the Rocky Mountains.
With its sunny, mild climate, Denver’s residents enjoy its many recreational activities, including 450 miles of paved bike trails and more than 70 golf courses. Not only does Denver have activities for just about every lifestyle, its residents are active and healthy, earning Denver the distinction as the “thinnest” city in America.
Downtown Denver is a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly area with a milelong, outdoor pedestrian promenade, three sports stadiums, 300 restaurants and 90 brew pubs all located within walking distance.
Because many move to Colorado for the outdoors, access to outdoor activities and adventures is important to most Denver residents. In no more than an hour-and-half drive, residents enjoy fishing, camping, whitewater rafting, skiing, horseback riding, sailing and biking. Half of Colorado’s land area is public land, including two national parks, 11 national forests, three national recreation areas and 30 state parks.

Located in the foothills where the plains meet the mountains, Boulder sits on the doorstep to the Rockies. Known for its fit, outdoorsy population, Boulder was named the “Best Place to be an Uberjock” by Outdoor Magazine. Boulder ranks No. 1 among 14 comparable cities in people who walk to work and No. 2 in people who bike to work. Seven out of 10 residents own bikes, and the town’s bicycle count is 93,000 — almost as many as people who reside in Boulder.
Boulderites are not only outdoorsy but also a cosmopolitan, highly educated population. Boulder is home to the University of Colorado campus with 25,000 students. The university district, known as “The Hill,” is a collection of restaurants, theaters, coffee houses and bars that cater to the student population.
Boulder’s cosmopolitan character is best enjoyed on the Pearl Street Mall, a pedestrian promenade that is home to many of Boulder’s 300 restaurants, 30 art galleries, four museums, and 32 stage and movie theaters. Boulder is also best known for its festivals, including the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Colorado Music Festival and a summertime Farmer’s Market.
