Los Angeles County is home to the second-largest city in the United States, but it also boasts a diverse group of smaller cities and neighborhoods, from the ethnic areas of Chinatown, Watts and East L.A. to the upscale enclaves of Brentwood and Bel Air. Cultural types should check out one of the county's many museums, whether it's the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Getty Center, the Natural History Museum or the Museum of Contemporary Art. And shoppers will wear out their shoe leather while hitting Rodeo Drive, the Beverly Center, Robertson Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. Because Los Angeles County is bracketed by the San Gabriel Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, it has plenty to offer fans of the outdoors. The county is home to several beautiful beach communities, stretching from Malibu to Long Beach, that give residents a chance to bike, hike, swim and surf. From the funky streets of Venice to the tony shops of Santa Monica, beach lovers can find their niche in one of the county's dozen-plus beach communities.
